PS Sim Summits K2

Summit of K2
Yes, it was last month that many of you would have read about PS Sim reaching the top of K2 - the second highest mountain in the world after Everest.

Straits Times article on 240823
Well, she came by our clinic today and both MJ and Kaylee were both ecstatic to meet her. In fact, they have been asking about her ever since they have seen her pictures in our clinic. The 2 fan girls got to ask her whatever questions they wanted. And of course they wanted pictures with her (below).

Kaylee asked her to compare Everest to K2. In her words, "Everest is a walk in the park compared to K2". To which I replied that it's not a walk in the park definitely.

We are all inspired by you PS!! Please put up an exihibition/ show and tell of all your pictures/ videos from Everest, K2 and the rest of 7 summits, we will definitely come.

PS Sim Finishes 200 Miles Race

Picture from PS Sim

Yes, you read correctly, PS Sim is the first and only finisher (male or female) so far in the 2021 Singapore 200 Miles Ultramarathon held from 6-9 August by Running Guild. She finished in an amazing 76 hours and 41 minutes!!

She came to see me last Thursday (5/8/21) for one last tune up as she had some knee pain. After treating her, she asked if I could do some taping for her. Since the cause of her knee pain was coming from her hip, I taped her left hip (instead of her left knee) and she was pain free through out the run. Have a look at the whatsapp message she sent me yesterday below.

She even offered to write me a testimonial for the Kinesio taping that I did for her. For all the naysayers who do not believe  that Kinesio taping works, the proof is in the pudding - or rather in PS Sim's legs!

Now, I have nothing against all the published articles that say Kinesio taping does not work. And there are many healthcare professionals who do not believe in it. However, if the researchers have never learnt to do the actual Kinesio taping correctly, or used different brands/ types of tape, then I would humbly suggest that their research methodology may be flawed.

Similarly, if I never learnt for example, Alexander technique, and I try it on my patients and end up with poor results, surely it is then unfair for me to say it does not work.

Anyway this post is not about Kinesio taping, this post is to congratulate PS Sim on a run super well done on Singapore's 56th National day!

She has next set her sights on completing the last mountain she needs to summit before she scales the highest peaks on all 7 continents in Antarctica this coming December. After Team Singapore's outing at the recent Tokyo Olympics, there were calls for the private sector to step up and support sports in Singapore. We have always done that and we will continue to do so. Sports Solutions will be wishing her all the best and supporting her.

Back From Mount Everest To Sports Solutions

Fresh from returning from her climb, PS came to our clinic today and presented me with an autographed picture of her on Mount Everest. Very kind of you PS, thank you very much indeed!

Here's a close up
Whilst treating her, she shared her stories from the climb, leaving me spellbound for more. It was really nice listening to her experience. Glad our clinic can be of help.

She also shared that she brought her Strassburg sock with her to Everest. So we decided that we will hold a raffle in her honor. The person who gives the best reason as to why they need a Strassburg sock will win one.

I'll let PS decide who gives the best answer on our Facebook page.

Here's the Strassburg sock you readers stand to win. Please go to our clinic's Facebook page and leave your comments. The winner will be announced end of this week on 160619. All the best!

PS Sim Makes It To The Top Of Mount Everest

Yes, you read correctly, PS Sim has scaled the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest! She reached the top of the 8,848m peak at 3 am on 22/5/19 (Nepali time).

As I hardly check Facebook, I only heard the news today as another of my patient who climbs told me when he came to the clinic this afternoon.

Thankfully she started early and avoided the crowd as you can see in the now infamous photo (below) that was posted by climber Nirmal Purja last Wednesday.

Since it was 3 am when she submitted, it was pitch black at that time, she traded off a good photo for not getting stuck in line. Better that than having to wait in line for hours.

Congratulations on a job well done PS! Come home soon.

Hillary step picture by Garret  Madison
The traffic jam is probably due to the few optimal weather windows open to the climbers trying to summit. From the picture above you can see the change in structure of the Hillary step after a massive earthquake hit the region in 2015. A big chunk of rock fell off and it is not as steep as before. The picture on the left was taken in 2017 while the one on the right in 2011.

Other than PS Sim, I had treated Edwin Siew and Khoo Swee Chow, members of the 1st Singapore Mt. Everest expedition in 1998 who also reached the top while I had another patient Rob who reached the peak in 2011.

First She Wins 100 Km Race, Now PS Summits Cho Oyu (8201 Meters)

Remember PS, winner of the Cameron Ultra-Trail 100 km race who saw me for her plantar fasciitis three days before her race on 25th July 2018?

Here's another feather to her already impressive list of achievements. She recently climbed to the top of Cho Oyu, a 8201 m high mountain!

She sent me this message last night. Still pain free after seeing just two times for her plantar fasciitis. Once before Cameron Ultra-Trail 100 km race and once after she came home from the race.

Well done PS!!! Come home safely soon.

PS Sim - Winner Of The Cameron Ultra-Trail 100 Km Race

Picture from PS Sim
PS kindly agreed to not remain anonymous anymore so I can finally write here that she is the runner who won the Cameron Ultra-Train 100 km race despite having plantar fasciitis (for the past six months at least). She came back to our clinic today to allow me to finish assessing her and treat the cause of her pain.

Actually, after my previous post, I've had questions from some readers already asking me what I did for PS and her plantar fasciitis.

Here's a summary of what I did for those asking. No ultrasound, no ESWT (shock wave) needed, no orthotics and no other gimmicks.

Just plain old accurate body reading and thorough assessment after the body reading pointed to clues around her hips being one of the main reasons to her pain in her plantar fascia. Other contributing factors also suggest that changing shoes and her foot type may have triggered it.

So, of course I started treating her hip first and also taught her what to do to prevent it from recurring. She needs to work at this still for the time being.

I wrote in my last session with her that I only had time to treat parts of her foot along her Superficial Back Line (SBL) and The Spiral Line.
Superficial Back Line

I did more work on her SBL and also treated fascia along her Superficial Front Line today. After that I had to change her pelvic rotation and suggested she may want to try taping her foot (in case she was planning on starting training again).

Happy to discuss if anyone has questions.
Spiral Line
Congrats to PS once again for a race well won and to Melvin for winning PS.
